You may have heard Masons talking about other Masonic groups to which they belong. These Appendant or Concordant bodies developed over the years to address different interests of Masons. The Concordant bodies, such as York Rite and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite grew out of literary mania for writing rituals based on biblical and legendary sources. They offer an opportunity for Masons to expand their Masonic education and participate in additional events, ceremonies and fellowship.
There are several appendant bodies that place a stronger emphasis on fun and social activities. You may already be aware of some of these, such as the Ancient Arabic Nobles of the Mystic Shrine – the Shriners. There is also the Mystic Order of the Veiled Prophet of the Enchanted Realm, known as the Grotto; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the Ancient Egyptian Order of SCIOTS; the National Sojourners and High Twelve International.
There are several groups open to Masons as well as their wives, daughters and other female relations. Some of these include: The Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Daughters of the Nile and the Social Order of the Beauceant.
There are also groups for the children of Masons or operated by Masons for the children in the community whether their fathers are Masons or not. Those would include: DeMolay International, Job’s Daughters and the International Order of the Rainbow.
The North Canton Temple is home to the Legacy Chapter #596 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Job’s Daughters International Bethel #31. There are links to those organizations web sites on our Home and Links pages
